Toyota Auris prepares for Paris debut

Compact cars like the seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf will have a fierce rival in the form of the all-new Toyota Auris.

Scheduled to make its world debut at the 2012 Paris Auto Show in September, the Auris features youthful styling and aerodynamic lines. Actually, the front section is fairly reminiscent of the popular Yaris. It's also 3 cm longer, 5.5 cm lower, and 40 kg lighter than its predecessor.

A pair of diesel engines (1.4L and 2.0L) will be available along with a 1.3L gasoline variant and a 1.8L hybrid system.

Production of the Toyota Auris will take place in the U.K.

Prices and specifications will be revealed at a later date, most likely around the Paris show. We still don't know exactly when and where the Auris will go on sale.
